This week, both chambers worked tirelessly to ensure all legislation put forth was heard in its originating house before Crossover last Wednesday. Crossover is a milestone for the General Assembly where bills passed by their respective chambers are now sent over to the opposite chamber for consideration.

On Wednesday, I have the honor of giving the opening prayer to my colleagues in the House of Delegates.

My Legislation

This year, members of the House of Delegates introduced over 1500 bills that showcased the many priorities of the citizens of the Commonwealth.

Below is a summary of the status of bills I introduced this General Assembly Session:

In January, House Bill 711House Bill 712, and House Bill 715 each unanimously made their way out of the House Appropriations Committee.

The Committee on Courts of Justice agreed to incorporate House Bill 716 into House Bill 310 (Delegate Patrick Hope). In like manner, House Bill 717 was incorporated into House Bill 1404 (Delegate Jeion Ward) by the Committee on Rules. Following their respective motions, both bills passed their committee and the House floor.

On Tuesday, House Bill 1514 , establishing the Virginia Sports and
Entertainment Authority, passed the House (59Y-40N) and is now awaiting committee assignment by the Senate.

Finally, House Bill 713 passed out of the House with no objections. This bill will be heard on Monday morning, February 19th, by the Senate Higher Education subcommittee.

Budget Update

The House Appropriations Committee has been working hard to finalize the House budget by February 18th. This Sunday, our committee and Senate Finance and Appropriations Committees will present their versions of the budget to the public.

Constituent Corner

Every week during Session advocacy groups, stakeholders and constituents join us here in Richmond to lobby for their priorities and address their concerns. My staff and I were pleased to meet with many Virginians including members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the Arc, the AARP, the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, the Bridge Ministry, the Students for Equity and Reform in Virginia, along with many others.
