This has been a busy week in Richmond as we finish our third week of the 2024 General Assembly. We are in the midst of committee hearings and working through legislation as we approach our deadline to finish all House legislation.

2024 Legislation

On Friday, I presented my House Bill 716 to the Rules Committee. This bill would require the Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity to conduct a disparity study every five years. The study would evaluate the need for enhancement and remedial measures to address the disparity between the availability and utilization of women-owned and minority-owned businesses.

It was incorporated into Delegate Jeion Ward’s HB1404. The bill is now referred to the Appropriations Committee, where it will be heard before going to the House floor.

Budget Bill

The House Appropriations Committee is working diligently to build a budget for the Commonwealth that is economically responsible, responsive to community input, and will improve living standards and equity of opportunity across Virginia.

This week, my team and I met with many constituents from the Prince William County School Board, the American Heart Association, the Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations, Prince William County 4-H, the American Cancer Society, and the Virginia Farmer’s Federation of America, which were just a few of the great groups to stop by.
