Happy Labor Day!

This day means so much more than the unofficial end of summer. It is a day to honor organized labor and the contributions of working people in American history. Labor unions give workers a voice on the job. We can all thank unions for the 40-hour work week, lunch breaks, and a minimum wage.

In the two years since you elected a Democratic majority to the General Assembly, Virginia has jumped from last place to #23 in Oxfam’s ranking of the best states for workers. I promise: As long as voters like you turn out to defend the majority this November, we’re going to keep that momentum going. Here are a few items on my legislative to-do list:

  • Paid leave for all
  • Collective bargaining
  • Paid sick days
  • Repeal right-to-work
  • $15/hour minimum wage

I believe in the power of working people standing together to make our commonwealth stronger, more just, and more equitable. I’m proud to have my re-election campaign endorsed by unions like Virginia AFL-CIO, Laborers’ International Union of North America Mid-Atlantic, and the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters.

I hope you’ll join me in thanking unions for this much-deserved day off.
