It’s officially August! While we are headed into the fall season, there is still a lot of summer fun left to enjoy, and I encourage everyone to take advantage of all the activities Prince William County has to offer.
Back to School
Prince William County Public Schools will begin the 2023-2024 school year on Monday, August 21st, and there is still time to register your child and pick up supplies for the new year.
Student Registration
The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism’s state-licensed preschool program is open for registration. The program provides thoughtfully planned experiences and opportunities that stimulate learning in all developmental areas: social, emotional, physical, and cognitive. School Supplies
If you have already registered your child or they are returning for another great year with friends and teachers, you can find their school and grade’s supply list on www.pwcs.edu/schools/index.
Student Vaccines
With a new school year approaching, it is a great time to ensure that your child is up to date on vaccines. The deadline to meet the immunization requirements for the upcoming school year is August 17, 2023. Parents/guardians may view information about student compliance with required immunizations in ParentVUE. If you do not have a ParentVUE account, please contact your school to assist you with setting up an account, or if you have specific questions about non-compliant immunizations, reach out to your school.
Immunization appointments can be scheduled with your health care provider, Prince William Health District (Woodbridge and Manassas), Mason and Partners (Manassas Park), urgent care, the Greater Prince William Health Center (Dumfries, Manassas, and Woodbridge), or local pharmacy for your child to receive the missing immunization(s). Appointments are currently available at all locations.
There will also be two vaccine clinics on Friday, August 11th, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at:
- Freedom High School, 15201 Neabsco Mills Road, Woodbridge
- Unity Braxton Middle School, 10100 Lomond Drive, Manassas
The following vaccines will be available while supplies last: Meningococcal ACWY (rising 7th and 12th graders), Tdap (rising 7th graders), HPV (rising 7th graders), and Hepatitis A (rising 2nd graders). Please bring your child’s current immunization record. If your child has Medicaid or private insurance, please bring your current Medicaid or insurance card.
National Night Out
The Prince William County Police Department will participate in the annual National Night Out celebration this year on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023, and encourages County residents to lock their doors, turn on outdoor lights, and spend the evening outside with their neighbors as a symbol that they care about their neighborhoods.
Watches throughout the County will host motorcade stops and invite police officers and other law enforcement personnel for refreshments. To learn more, please visit the link.
Safe Streets
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently voted to accept, budget, and appropriate $992,000 in federal grant funds from the United States Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program and authorize the execution of an agreement between the Board and the USDOT for a Comprehensive Traffic Safety Action Plan. The grant provides funding for regional, local, and tribal initiatives to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.
The Prince William County Department of Transportation will partner with working groups that include police, trails advocates, civic organizations, and the Virginia Department of Transportation to develop the plan, which should be completed in calendar year 2024. The department will also welcome feedback during the plan development. 2023 Endorsements
Since the last District newsletter, my re-election campaign has received some exciting new endorsements. I now have endorsements from: Planned Parenthood and have been named a 2024 Gun Sense Candidate by Moms Demand Action.
