FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WOODBRIDGE, VA – Today Chair Luke Torian is formally announcing the launch of his campaign for re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates for the 52nd district.

Chair Torian said: It is an honor to serve the people of the 52nd district and to represent you in the House of Delegates. I have a proven record of leadership at home and in Richmond. Since 2010, I have brought our shared values to the General Assembly, fighting to improve our public schools and transportation infrastructure; uplift Virginia’s military families and working people. In 2020, as Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, I was responsible for the Commonwealth’s budget during the worst national economic crisis since the Great Depression. We funded expanded health care access, instituted protections for tenants and frontline workers, and safeguarded school budgets while maintaining Virginia’s strong fiscal standing. I look forward to continuing to be a voice for our communities.

Speaker of the House Eileen Filler-Corn has endorsed Chair Torian, saying: I am proud to endorse Appropriations Chair Delegate Luke Torian in his campaign for re-election. Delegate Torian has demonstrated sound, responsible judgement while playing a leading role in shaping the financial direction of our Commonwealth. He has fought tirelessly for the residents of HD-52 and families across Virginia. I look forward to serving alongside him in the years to come as we protect families, keep Virginians healthy and rebuild our economy even stronger.

Chair Torian is a husband, father, pastor, and community leader. He was first elected to represent the 52nd district in 2009 and has since been re-elected five times. The first African American to chair Virginia’s House Appropriations Committee, Chair Torian leads the development of the state budget with an emphasis on accessible higher education and responsible economic development. In addition to chairing the Appropriations Committee, Chair Torian serves on the Rules and General Laws Committees and the ABC/Gaming Sub-Committee in the House. Since being elected to the General Assembly, Chair Torian has successfully passed over 40 bills and resolutions, including legislation to: improve public education, reform policing, promote security in retirement, help veterans and their dependents, and end surprise medical billing.
